Our old, heavy style monitor (or CRT as people call them) was acting erratically, turning off on its own, the picture shaking around, really weird stuff, and being 6 years old we just decided to go look at a new style monitor instead of fixing the old one.
I admit I know very little about computer equipment, and just want to buy something that works for what we need, is affordable, and isnt going to quit anytime soon.
My husband did some comparison shopping online and found that we would be better off with a LCD (liquid crystal display) monitor rather than another CRT.
I was excited because they look neat and are flat, taking up less space.
We decided to purchase our monitor at a Future Shop store, so that we could ask questions about different models, and compare warranties and prices while getting to see the actual quality of the picture on the monitor.
The Future shop employee told us that this LG Flatron L1750SQ picture quality is not as sharp looking as a CRT, and that we would have to go up in price range (like up to $700. no thanks) to get a better picture.
Personally, I was pleased with the picture quality, although my husband does notice a bit of a difference in clearness, but hes also a nitpicker. So for $ 379 Canadian we are the proud owners of a LCD monitor.
SETTING UP THE LG FLATRON L1750SQ
The monitor came in a small box with a handle. Inside, the monitor itself is separate from the base.
The stand base has little hooks to slide into the slots on the monitor. They connected very easily to the monitor. Voila! The monitor was together.
Along with the monitor and base were a User guide CD/cards, power cord, and 15-pin D-Sub Signal Cable (or simply said - the cable that connects the monitor to the computer tower)
The easy setup guide gave simple instructions on connecting the monitor to the computer, safety precautions, adjusting screen resolution, positioning the monitor, and CD ROM use and contents.
The resolution for our 17 inch monitor calls for 1280x1024, but our computer told us it could not accept that, so we are in between the 15 and 17 range. There is a chart on the setup guide telling you what complete resolution to use depending on your size of monitor. All sizes 15, 17 or 19 called for 60hz optimal frequency which I admit I know nothing about, just that we set it there and it worked.
The monitor driver installation drive contained instructions for installing on our Windows 98 system. There were 8 simple steps to go through, along with installing the disk, and we were ready to go. The monitor is compatible with Windows XP, 2000, 95/98/ME and Macintosh
I really like this monitor. Appearance wise (Im girly I worry about that) it looks sleek and sharp with a silver frame around the screen. The menu/lightview/auto/set and power buttons are small and grey on the bottom right hand corner of the frame. The base is black and round on the bottom only taking up 9 in diameter of space. It takes up very little room on my desk, and can sit further back on the desk, not being as close to my face, especially compared to the clunky CRT we used to have sitting there. I now have workspace in front of the monitor, a place for more junk to pile up.
The monitor tilts form ס to 20 degrees, and swivels 350 degrees. I have it set where I like it, and we dont have a need to tilt or swivel it during regular home use.
The picture quality is clear, the 17 size is perfect for viewing.
For people who want a fast response time, this LG Flatron L1750SQ boasts 8 milliseconds ultra fast response time. I dont require such speed, as the only gaming I do is solitaire, but is much faster than other monitors with 12ms or more.
Our warranty is straight from LG Electronics for a period of 3 years on labor and parts, and 1 year on backlight. Other monitors at the store only had 1-year warranties, and than wanted to upsell you to a store warranty. It states please retain your box to return the unit for repair. So apparently the box will be kicking around for 3 years, oh well at least its a small box.
Fast response time, clear picture quality, simple installation, lightweight, sleek, space saving design, Im very happy with my new LG Flatron L1750SQ LCD monitor!
Thanks for reading my first electronics review!
