Exceptional recording ability
Bewertet am: Apr 8, 2005
Fazit: Excellent recording quality based our tests and those of others.
This is our second dvd recorder. The first was a Panasonic DMR-E75S combo unit ( vcr + dvd recorder ). The new ES10 is an improvement in that it can now record to more media types, dvd-ram, dvd-r, dvd-rw, and dvd+r. It cannot record to dvd+rw but can play it back. The ES10 also is designed for 8X -r and +r media and X4 -rw media vs the 4X -r media of the older E75 which would only record to dvd-ram and dvd-r. The E75 would actually record to most 8X media however.
As with the E75, the ES10 has a lot of features such as "chasing playback" ( allowing viewing a recording while recording), "time slip" ( allowing jumping to a specific scene by specifying the skip time ), creating titles and chapters, editing titles and chapters, creating a playlist ( playing chapters in your desired order ). The only problem is that these functions are only available for dvd-ram or dvd-rw.
For dvd-r and dvd+r, the only features are recording and upon finalizing, the ES10 adds chapter points about every five minutes. Regarding finalizing, the ES10 is actually twice as slow as the E75 which took two minutes to finalize a full dvd-r. The ES10 takes about four minutes. A plus for the ES10 is that the remote now has an eject button which the E75 did not have.
Now for the more technical. We made the decision to buy this unit partly because of tests done on this link,
http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=263530
indicating excellent record quality.
We were also interested in this unit because it had been suggested that it had an input TBC ( time base corrector )so we contacted Panasonic and asked them directly if these units including the E75 had such a feature. Here is their emailed response,
"The DMR series recorders utilize a frame synchronizer where incoming non-synchronous video is and referenced against an internal reference signal.
While a TBC performs the same function, it also regenerates horizontal and vertical sync as well as the color burst reference signal."
What does this all mean? This feature allows errors on VHS tape to be corrected to some degree. For example, we had a VHS tape that rolled vertically. Even so the recorded dvd did not roll. There was a light colored horizontal bar that slowly moved from top to bottom but the picture did not roll.
The ES10 was purchased from Circuit City for $189.99 two weeks ago. We have burned fifty dvd-r's on it since with perfect results. Media used was Taiyo Yuden 4X dvd-r, ESA 8X dvd-r, Verbatim 8X dvd+r, Panasonic 2-3X dvd-ram.
