Save your $60 on other games

Fazit: If you don't have the Pokemon gameboy series, forget buying this game. Save your money on other great classics.
The reason I bought a Nintendo 64 is because of Pokemon Stadium 2. Nintendo is the only video game console licensed to sell Pokemon games. I own a playstation, and am very familiar of the pros and cons of video games in general. From the start I could tell that Pokemon Stadium 2 is simply eye-candy. The graphics are great, and the angles of each fight are breathtaking. At the beginning of each battle, the camera does a close up rotation to the character, and shows our favorite Pokemons from each angle. But after a while, there is a lot of repetition in the various attacks and other scenes. One of the other negative aspects is the sounds effects. The sound of each Pokemon was over simplified. Many of the characters have the same ?growling? sound (could you imagine the cute Pikachu growling?). There is a narration that explains the progress of each battle, but he doesn?t seem enthusiastic enough, even Ash sounds better in the Pokemon series on TV. One of the pros of this game are the minigames, there are a variety of minigames you could choose from and can be played in multiplayer mode, so when you are tired of battling Pokemon, you can simply relax and try your skills with a minigame. But the battles do get boring after a while. I would give the average player 2 weeks before it is becomes forgetware.
One of the worse aspects of this game is that it was created as an extension for the Pokemon gameboy series. Since I don?t own a gameboy, this has been a real drawback for enjoying Pokemon Stadium 2. You cannot save and ?build up? your pokemon?s experience. And you cannot use around 30% of all the features of the this game. What it does have to offer for non-gameboy owners is a rental mode, where we can choose any pokemon we want and form a group. But all of them are already pre-equipped with default features that cannot be customized.
Considering all the pros and cons of Pokemon Stadium 2, my personal opinion is that it isn?t worth the $60 price tag. Especially compared with the other great Nintendo games such as the Zelda series.
