A Shooter With Thought
Bewertet am: Jun 29, 2006
Fazit: A great shooter that makes you think before you start blazing, and you can play it over and over without getting bored!
SWAT4 is defiantly not your average shoot-em-up game. Yes, the perspective is that of a first person shooter, but you get points deducted if you do not follow SWAT procedure (i.e. use of unauthorized force).
The graphics engine for this game seems to be an all-new one. I would compare the graphics to that of Unreal Tournament 2004; very clear and well done. You are given on-screen menus via right click that allow you to control your teams movements, which is *very* handy. Screenshots are on google, but I'm willing to take some if you have some specific item you want to see. Meshes are smooth, animations are good, and textures are excellent. The only graphic problem that I had with this game is that your officers will sometimes have clipping issues and get stuck inside of objects. This is rather frustrating in the middle of a mission!
Sound wise I give this game 10 for 10. You can hear baddies and hostages in other rooms talking or crying for help. The gunfire sounds realistic, as do the grenade sounds. All of the voice actors made believable characters. Your men will make funny comments as you play. You, "The Boss," seem to have a limited number of commands (I didn't count, but my guess is 25) which get sort of old if you play the game often.
Gametime varies depending on two things: how gung-ho you are, and what the difficulty level is. On easy, the game took me about 19 hours to complete with varying scores. If you want 100%, it will take you a pretty long time. I haven't played all the way through hard mode (yes, it is very hard), but my guess is 50-80 hours to complete it in that mode.
The learning curve for controlling you and your men is minimal. The game comes equipped out of the box/download (not in the demo!) with a tutorial mode which covers all of the basic maneuvers. You should be an expert in getting yourself around in about half an hour. Getting the hang of the remote camera system takes a bit longer (I still don't use it much).
There are many weapons at your team's disposal - and when I say team, I mean team (more on that later). There are several SMG (generic submachine guns), assault rifles, and handguns that utilize FMJ (full metal jacket) or hollow point ammo (lethal). These tend to not get you scores of 100% however, since you end up killing suspects instead of apprehending them. There are less lethal weapons such as a tazer and a bean-bag shotgun which aid you in convincing suspets to comply.
Upon breaching or entering an area, you also have some grenades available. Flashbangs disorient, Stingers hurt quite a bit, and CS (gas) gives your suspects a coughing fit. Using these wisely will convince your suspects that it is a better idea to give up than to shoot it out.
Your team is made up of four members (red team and blue team) plus two snipers. You can control virtually all of these team members remotely, to some extent. If you want to, you can sit in the staging area and run your men around the level, or you can take the lead and clear rooms yourself. This game is very versatile.
SWAT4 can be played over and over again without running into the same scenarios; the characters in each level are randomly spawned. This game has a very high replayabilty rating!
