Of all the skating games I've ever played, Tony Hawk's Underground has got to be my favorite!
For starters, you are not playing as a pro skater like in the past Tony Hawk games, (although you could in freeskate if you wanted to.) but you create your own character. You can create yourself, you're best friend, your cousin, anyone you want!
You play the game through story missions. Although some games aren't very good with story missions, this one really rocks! You start out as a nobody skater that lives in New Jersey who wants to get a sponser and become a well-known pro. His/her chances start when Chad Muska the pro skater comes to your town to give a skating demo. From there you find you're sponser and try to get on a skating team. You go all around the world for Manhattan to Moscow pursuing the skating dream.
And good news! You are not limited to your skateboard! In Tony Hawk's Underground you can get off your skateboard and run around and climb up things! Not to mention you get to drive a car! You also build up skill doing tricks. If you did certain grinding or tricks, you would gain skill in that category, for example. I'm kinda suprised that concept wasn't thought of earlier from Neversoft. Another thing that's great is that once you unlock it by getting far enough in the game, you get to create your OWN tricks and your OWN skateboards. Can't get much cooler than that!
With other games from Neversoft, their soundtracks were really something else! In this game, however, the sound track really blew. It's pretty good music but not as good as it could've been and there aren't enough songs so by the time you beat the game you've pretty much memorized the songs. The only other thing that could've been better about this game was that it could've been a bit harder. After getting the hang of it, I beat the game a few times in a row. But that doesn't mean it still wasn't fun! On the contrary, the more I played and beat the game, the more fun it got! And the more addicting!
So in other words, this game is completely recommended by me and if you're hesitating like I was when I bought it, my advice is to go for it! It's worth the price for hours and hours of fun! So stop taking my word and go see for yourself! I'm sure you'll enjoy the game!
